Horse & Livestock Judging

What is horse judging?

The basics of judging horses involve critically evaluating the conformation of a horse for a suitable purpose or the ability of a horse to perform certain requirements for a class. At competitions we are given a list of the classes that will be shown, as well as patterns for the specific classes. There will always be at least two halter classes at each competition. Therefore, at our weekly practices we will work on every class. We will watch videos through ICEV and judge different classes, then give our reasons to the rest of the team. The format of notes and reasons will be taught at the first few practices. After the first competition, the senior team will be chosen from the top four scores.

How can I get involved?

Horse Judging practice will begin on the 19th of January in 2023. Livestock judging practice will begin on the 17th of January, anyone in Ag can join! Talk to Mr. Nettles or go to the 'contact us' page to learn more about getting involved!
